Key Purpose of Role



- Develops and influences financial and business unit strategy of a defined business area or plays a lead specialist role of senior team of subject matter experts (relative to financial responsibility)

- Leads the budgetary and financial control activities for a defined financial area within a business unit to meet needs of all stakeholders, Government and statutory bodies

- Owns relationship with and influences at DR to LOB CFO (UK Exec) level

- Likely to have some direct people / resource management responsibility

- Likely to be a subject matter expert within a defined specialist area and have specialist advanced qualification

- Likely to have financial accountability for greater unit size / value where responsible for cost base rather than revenue generating unit

- Typical personal financial accountability for business unit size greater than c.£0.150bn or a Finance area of responsibility or greater than c.£0.75m (if solely a cost base) or £10m - 20m of cost transformation. Likely to have financial accountability for greater unit size / value where responsible for cost base rather than revenue generating unit



The specific scope of this role



- Support a large scale, Europe-wide transformation project focusing on organizational change and cost reduction

- Independently manage financial reporting required by the project; create templates, query the system, pull together data from off-line sources and interviews

- Create high quality presentations for senior management and present findings;

- Liaise with country finance / HR and business teams to monitor progress

- Challenge country teams if timelines / targets are not met – develop action plan to close the gaps



Functional Knowledge



- Sufficient knowledge of industry skills to make an impact, including non-financial skills (e.g. six sigma, process, telecommunications, contracts)

- Significant knowledge of the company’s wide financial process and specific financial systems to manage timelines, system issues and requirements

- Contributes towards the development of and achievement of Business unit / finance strategy / pan-company function strategy in specialist unit. Roles may require strong commercial creativity

- Drives financial performance and gives financial guidance to senior leadership teams and guides more junior roles

- Advises and coaches on financial policy and practices that support the company's long term goals

- Expert in a number of finance work areas - Specialist roles at this level should be recognized internally for expertise



Complexity of Role



- Manages transformation complexity with ownership for delivery of key business unit specific organization-wide finance programs

- Sets agendas, identifies opportunities and drives best practice and provides insight on finance work area(s) or specialism

- Ownership and delivery of planning, facilitation and completion of FD sponsored finance programs (or sponsors/guides substantial components of smaller scale programs)

- Drives judicious use of resources to maximize productivity and drive cost efficiency and instrumental in driving expansion of margins

- Responsible for full financials of a component, customer(s) and / or supplier(s) or complex pan-company specialist function.

- May deal with complexity of multiple reporting systems & methods (e.g. UK & global)

- Personally accountable for financial performance



Client and Stakeholder Management



- Responsibility for building and maintaining strong senior manager level relationships both internally and externally with customers, suppliers or other major bodies

- Educates, supports and challenges senior managers /senior stakeholders and is considered a strategic business partner

- Directly influences senior management thinking (typically VP/Director level - UK Exec) and is an agent of change



Authority Decision-Making and level of Independent Working



- May have financial authority for business unit (e.g. controller for standalone business unit) / financial approval for bids & tenders or capital investment decisions

- Personally accountable for application (leading design & implementation) of appropriate financial accounting policies and processes, may lead financial management and control of contracts

- Works with high level of authority, guidance sought only in high risk circumstances and resolves complex issues unguided and across LoB boundaries

- Likely to have operational ownership of key programs

- Advisor and coach to more junior roles and advises on specialist area



Experience and Professional Qualifications



- Typically degree level or equivalent

- Fully qualified accountant / Further qualification to support specialism (.e.g. CIMA, ACCA, IIA, CISA, ACT, CTA, MCT, IR Society Certificate or equivalent) or exceptionally equivalent experience in lieu of qualification

- Significant PQE

- Significant experience in Big 4 / industry
